Startup founders need legal services from someone who truly understands their world, and that’s where I come in.

 

I’m Dan, the founder of Davies Law Office. I started my practice to provide accessible, adaptable, and quality representation to early-stage startup companies. My services draw on my expertise from an eclectic cross-continental background of science, sales enablement, and now, law. As an attorney, I use the breadth of my professional experiences to offer tailored counsel that fits each of my clients’ unique forms.

Long before deciding to pursue a legal career, I honed the research, analytical, and problem-solving skills I still use today during my Master’s degree in Chemistry at Imperial College London. After graduating, I took a position within the sales team of a startup, which eventually led to a relocation to Boston to help establish the company’s North American presence. These seemingly unrelated fields rewarded curiosity and had a shared appreciation for systems thinking. During the relocation –  "across the pond" from England to New England – empathetic listening and thoughtful communication were key to my success in forging lasting relationships.

When I made the decision to pursue a career in law at Northeastern University’s School of Law, I embraced their renowned experiential approach to learning, grounded in their co-op programs. I worked for a public advocacy group promoting policies for equitable access to technologies; the in-house counsel of a global B2B software company; and the chambers of a Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.

 

Exposure to these diverse legal environments and practitioners seeded my methodology for practicing law, approaching matters in both conventional and creative ways. After law school, I took the role of Legal Fellow at the University’s Roux Institute in Portland, Maine. There, I supported entrepreneurs from a wide array of startups in navigating the legal complexities of growing a business.

While at the Roux, I found my professional spark in collaborating closely with founders who were passionate about their ideas, and at the same time, I witnessed firsthand their struggles to find accessible, adaptable, and quality legal representation. The work inspired me to "hang my own shingle." I established Davies Law Office as the confluence of my experiences to be a legal partner who understands and can align with startups, being with them from formation through every milestone of their journey.
